Change of project key

Question

I am looking for some info on change of the project key. I would like to know what things I need to keep in mind or what things will be affected that user should be aware of?

Filters or any other things will those get changed automatically?

Thanks!!

Leena

Hi @Leena Siddamshetty ,

changing the project key has not impact to your user.

JIRA will keep a mapping between old and new key so that links, filters and other things will be not affected.

Example :

Old Project Key : AAA

New Project Key : BBB

If you try to access AAA-2 issue, you will be automatically redirected to BBB-2

Here an useful article that describe that change https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/editing-a-project-key-938847080.html

Hope this helps,

Fabio

A background re-index will happen so take that into performance considerations for when you plan to do the rename.  Other than that here's what you can expect.

Editing the Project Key:

* Old project key can be used in JQL queries
* Attachments are still accessible
* Issue links with old key work as expected
* You cannot create a new project with the old / renamed key
* Only deleting the project allows the reuse of the key
