When initially creating an issue, code snippets doesn't work in Description

Question

Is our project missing a setting here?

When we initially create an issue and filling out the Description, using either ` or ``` does not perform any formatting - it just inserts the quotes as plain text.

Once you save the issue, and edit that field again, ` and ``` properly formats into code.

{code} blocks work but those are a pain to use.

Every other formatting (like h1, *, ^) works fine. Just not ` and ```.

Any ideas?

I've not seen it done this way in Jira often - and given it's not mentioned, but {code} is, I'd think that's the supported method on the platform.

For me, it doesn't work either in create or edit.

I'm using the standard format of e.g. either single backticks for embedded:

This is an `embedded code` block

or triple backticks:

This is:
```
a multiline
code block
```

It's not specified on the page I linked above but it's the universal markup standard for embedded code, and it's clearly supported on JIRA everywhere after the initial bug is entered.

It just doesn't work during the first insert of the issue.

I assume this is Server/Data Center?

If yes, which text formatting option are you trying to use instead of {code}? Could you clarify which one it is from the full text help list? To locate this...

* Create an Issue
* In the Description field, press + > Text help
