How to convert a jira text field into a number using smart values?

Hi. 

I would like the sum of several text fields (with numeric input value). I have tried something like this {{issue.value.asNumber}} + {{issue.value.asNumber}} but without any success. 

I have also tried without asNumber, and trim() and without '+'. 

Is it not possible to add two textfields and getting the result in a mathematical value?

In general, asNumber should perform the conversion when you reference the field's smart value correctly and use one of the supported mathematical syntaxes.

Please consider posting images of your complete automation rule and the audit log details showing the rule execution.  That may provide more context to help identify and fix this symptom.  Thanks!
