Export/present Kanban board

Question

Has anyone ever found good way of exporting a Kanban board into something that's more presentable?  We have a number of managers who don't use JIRA but require an update via Powerpoint (or similar) on project status -this is always such a manual job each time/  I can't even find anything relating to templates etc that would work.    Surely this is something we're all doing regularly, there has to be a less manual way of doing it.

Any hint/tips of how anyone is achieving this gratefully received

@Clare Nugent , you can try using Pivot Report we develop.

It represents issues' data in form of customizable Issue Structure and Pivot tables:

These reports are easy to share outside of your Jira instance: you can export either as Excel or HTML file. HTML files provide the same level of interactivity as reports in Jira:

I am sure many here will share your pain of having folks who do not use Jira but need to have updates. I would suggest that sending them a copy of the Kanban/Scrum board is potentially flawed. My reasoning being that the main point of the board is to be uptodate so as soon as you take any form of copy it loses that real-time connection. This tends to lead to lots of wasted time around discussions where reality has moved on from the time at which the snapshot took place.

Instead I would look at your process and consider the issue from a different perspective.

"What information do the managers need? When do they need it?"

So this might lead to answers similar to the following which can be met through other approaches - inbuilt reports/dashboards/filter subscriptions etc,.

* Need to know that the team working on Kanban board are keeping up with the requests that are being asked of them  - Cumulative Flow Diagram or Average Age Chart

* Want to know what is next in line to be dealt with under current prioritisation - filter subscription or dashboard view

* Want to know what has been dealt with in the recent past? filter subscription or dashboard view

At the end of the day there is always the simple cut and paste/screenshot method to pull information across in to powerpoint etc. But are these managers comfortable using Confluence? In which case you can look at building reports in Confluence that contain live links/feeds of information from Jira.

Hope these thoughts are helpful to enable you to supply your managers with what they need.

Hi @Clare Nugent , welcome to the Community.

First it is important to note that Kanban is simply a presentation of issues with some cool mechanics that help teams process their "to do" work. So there is no concept of exporting a board. What you can do is export the data (issues and associated attributes) being displayed in a board.

With that said let's get to the heart of your issue/challenge. I would agree that a Kanban is not the best tool for most execs or Sr. Management to easily consume especially if the only occasional have a peek. Assuming you concur consider the following options. I have them in order of my recommendation but this is based on some unknown assumptions about your situation.

* build a Jira Dashboard - this is a great in-app solution
* consider a Marketplace app - there are quite a few apps that go above and beyond Jira Dashboards but of course this comes with a cost
* connect with MS PowerBI - this is an extremely powerful BI and if your company and management is familiar with this then it might be your best option
* export data to Excel or Sheets - this can be scheduled to occur if you use Google Sheets
