What Precautions do we have to take before installing a plug in on jira software.

Hello Team,

We are interested to purchase a license for a plug in on jira software, which is available in the Atlassian market place. We want to know what precautions can we take before purchasing license and installing the plug in on jira software.

Thanks In Advance,

Venkatesh

It's not so much "precautions", just safe usage.

Only install apps from trusted sources:

People you have investigated thoroughly, checking references, length of activity in the ecosystem and so-on

You write it yourself or have a trusted vendor write it for you

Apps from the marketplace.

The marketplace can be used as a proxy for most of the checks you might want to do - malicious or damaging apps are not there for very long, you can see what levels of support the vendor has, there are a couple of badges Atlassian apply for vendors who are involved in security (and other) programs with Atlassian, you can see their length of tenure and popularity.

Most of us would not bother with precautions when we install an app from the marketplace on a test system to try it out.  If we decide the app does what we want, then we'd probably read the marketplace info properly to establish how trusted the vendor is before making the decision to buy, but that's about it really.

When you come to the day of install, maybe think about taking a backup before install, but generally if it's gone into test without a problem, you won't have to worry about it.
