Send a email notification to the reporter of a linked issue

Hello,

I have a scenario where changing status of one issue triggers creation and linking of a second issue. The problem is when the second issue changes status I would like to send a notification to the Reporter of the first issue that is linked to the second issue. 

Please note that the second issue has a third issue linked to it as well.

I wonder if it might not be easier just to add the reporter to the link issue as a watcher. This could be easily accomplished through the use of automation. Granted the watcher will receive more notifications than simply status change.
