This free app seems to have a timer: eZee Worklog

Automatically - this means that I press Start - the time starts to go, I press Stop - the time is fixed. Like the Automated Log Work for JIRA plugin, but only for free.
I think Charlie’s question was valid. One persons definition of automatic may not align with another’s. In any event the free option he offered seems to address your refined requirements so I would have a look at that
