Discussion forum in Confluence

Prasad_li1vt0

We are thinking to use discussion forum in confluence. Do you use discussion forum / discussion board in Confluence?

Is it good idea to have discussion forum in Confluence? What template should be used for discussion - Page/ Blog / Decision or any other ?

Please tell me your recommendations.

Thank you.

I'm researching this right now and found a bunch of Q&A plugins in the Atlassian Marketplace, but haven't tried any of them out:

I also found this product from Atlassian: Questions for Confluence.

Has anyone tried any of these? How are you finding them?

I also found this related discussion comparing Stack Overflow for Teams with Questions for Confluence: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Questions-for-Confluence/Which-is-better-Stack-Overflow-for-Teams-or-Questions-for/td-p/1187605

Hello, can't someone help me... I don't know which macro I can use on the confluence cloud to obtain the old macro 'Panel'?

Lukasz Wiatrak

I'm the author of one of these applications - Community Questions for Confluence (formerly known as Q&A Community). I'm happy to answer any questions regarding the usage of Q&A-style apps as a discussion forum.

Just type {panel} and it will automatically show up

Otherwise,
- click the "+" icon
- click "more macros"
- search for "panel"

Mitch McKinnon

Cloud Confluence doesn't have or support the old panel macro.

"{panel}" is said to not be supported.

Hi Keeley,

Did you try any of the apps you listed above? If so, which one did you end up going with to create a discussion forum for your customers?

We are looking to implement a customer discussion board for our Jira Service Management customers, basically something similar to this Atlassian Community. We are also trying to implement an Idea Lab where they can submit ideas and other members of our customer community can vote on them so we can build a product roadmap based off highly requested features from the community.

It sounds like you had been looking to implement something similar. Did any of the apps above help you achieve that functionality?

Keeley Sorokti

@Fletcher Simer We did not try any of these apps. I was looking for internal employee discussion, not for customers. We do have an online customer community that uses a more robust online community platform.

I know a bit about online community platforms for customer communities (like this one that we are in). I recommend looking at:

Verint Community
Khoros
Gainsight
Higher Logic
Vanilla

I highly discourage using Salesfore Communties

Confluence works well for structured documentation, but it’s not always the best fit for open discussions. Some teams solve this by integrating external plugins or linking with other tools for a smoother workflow. It’s similar to how services evolve by extending their core features thoughtfully like how this service
balances reliability with added options. Have you considered whether your team needs a Q&A style or a more casual forum setup?
