Converting from Sub-task type to Standard type

Question

I have a Jira Project that was created before I joined the company that was meant to be used to track OKRs. To that end, the user who created it created an 'Objective' issue type and a 'Key Result' issue type. I believe the thinking was that the KR would always be under an Objective, so they made it a Sub-task type. Someone else then came along and created a 'Sub-Key Result' issue type, but as a standard level issue type. This has made it unnecessarily confusing and also essentially impossible to use these in Advanced Roadmaps properly.

What's the easiest way I can convert 'Key Result' into a standard level issue type, while still maintaining any 'child of' linking?

It's that second part that I am worried about. This is hundreds of issues. Looking for a way to automate preserving the linking if possible.

You can't change the level of an issue type.

What you'll need to do is create a new issue type at the right level and then use "convert to issue" on every issue that needs to move up to a standard type.  As they will no longer be sub-tasks, you won't have "child of" links any more, so you'll probably want to add an issue link to their former parent if you want to keep track of that relationship.

Hi @Taylor Huston there is no easy way how to "just change" the type from Standard type to Sub-task type.

You will have to

* create new issuetype
* migrate all the issues to new issuetype (Move function) and set correct parent issues
* delete old issuetype
* (rename sub-task issue type)
