Gadget configuration error

Question

We have a Jira Server installed in our server with an Apache proxy.

Once logged in, the Activity Stream gadget does not show anything other than a "gadget.common.config.unavailable" error. Other gadgets behave similarly, where the string literals for every label and text are not being replaced (or they are but with empty strings).

This usually means that the Jira server can not reach itself over the network, and the usual underlying causes are either that the network cannot resolve the Jira server (or proxy if you have one in front of it) or there is a certificate problem when you're using SSL.

Very simple test is to nip on to the apache server and try "ping <base url of your Jira>", that should tell you if it a network issue.
