How can I maintain the ranking when changing the issue type (via move issue)

We use GH 5.4.1. Currently our Product Owners are not able to correct the issue type (story, technical story, epic, ...) when they set it wrong initially, because they found out that Jira changes the ranking for the issues when they change the issue type (via the move issue command). Re-ranking it after changing the issue type in a long backlog is too complicated.

Any help highly appreciated!

I'm having the same issue when moving projects.

Can you try exporting all your issues with all fields, then importing back in?

That shoud keep the rank.

Though what happens if there's duplicate numbers.
