Performance dropping on issues with large number of comments

Hello,
We have been noticing a particular behavior on issues with many comments:

When you open the issue the comments are collapsed. After expanding the comments, the browser takes about 10 to 15 seconds to respond and to allow the user to scroll down.

What can we do to increase the performance on these situations?

I'm afraid all you can do is delete comments that are not critical to the issue.

I don't believe the code in Jira is great for rendering large numbers of comments, as it does some repetitive stuff that could really be downloaded once and applied many times, but you'd lose some of the functionality in comments if you did that.  (Personally, I'd prefer the speed).

I don't think the volume it needs to download is going to change, so we are left with only "get a faster network" or "reduce the volume of the download by removing comments"
