Out of memory killed process after a week of usage

Hi,

I am using JIRA on my local macmini in a virtual machine. My usage of JIRA is for now relatively small. Only 1 user, only 2 projects, maximum of 200 tickets in the system, and I probably use the product max 2 hours per week.

However, I noticed after around a week the server crash on my VM, with out of memory error message :

"Out of memory: Kill process 1178 (java) score 449 or sacrifice child [2109156.905688] Killed process 1178 (java) total-vm:5349220kB, anon-rss:1597920kB, file-rss:0kB, shmem-rss:0kB"

I have Jira 8.3 (8.3.3 I think)

How can I fix this? I already doubled allocated memory on my virtual machine (several Gb) and nothing changed.

Hi thanks for your answer, I forget to mention that I already increased JVM memory to 1820 Mb. I mean, I am really having a small usage of JIRA and it is crashing after a week... Right now out of my 1820Mb only 50% is used.

Isn't this a memory leak problem? Because it usually crash when I am not using after a while.

That for small scale it is recommended >1Gb and I am almost at 2Gb for JVM. I am definitely small scale because only 1 user, 2 project, 200 tasks.

I can see from the error Java on the hardware(local machine VM) itself has 1 process 1178 that consumes 1597920kB = 1.59792 GB and you have a total 5.34922 GB even from the scaling document you have provided the minimum is 8 GB

"the anon-rss" anonymous resident set size (rss is a way to measure the amount of memory used by a process. In your case it is 1178 (java) score

The "Out Of memory" here means that your memory(System memory is not enough)

How much system memory do you have ?

Good point I have 3087Mb allocated in virtual Machine. I thought recommended memory for JIRA was not minimum requirement and I could put less. On this machine a linux server without GUI, only JIRA and bitbucket are used with very minimal usage as mentioned before with only one user.

I am going to increase memory to 4Gb and see if the situation reproduce. Do you think I should reduce JVM memory to 1024MB as recommended and how it was before?

Edit : By the way I have h2 database enabled (I will change soon). Can this also be the problem in terms of memory foot print?

We are also facing the issue in memory, from last week i could see 95% reaching.

i have 32GB RAM, 13.5GB is allocated to JVM, 8 GB is allocated to EazyBI plugin, two application ( Jira and eazybi) running on same server, here what i am facing is ( EazyBI, R4J,Power BI addon's) getting 504 gateway error while exporting/importing the data - is it relevant to the memory ( doubt on this),

How can i fix this!!.
