Do we need to perform re-index after restarting the JIRA?

After restarting the JIRA, i was re-rerouted to the configuration page after few seconds the app is running. Before got rerouted, i was able to login to the JIRA and view issues that was created before the restart.

I have done the reconfiguration, but after i restart the JIRA (after performing the new config), i am again able to access to the JIRA with my login that i used before the restart and i was able to view the existing issues that was created before the first restart. After few seconds, when i want to view the issue, it got redirected to the login page which i can access it with my newly created account. But all the existing issue is gone. I have checked the DB, all issues created are still kept in the DB.

Usually, it is not necessary to re-index Jira application after a restart, however, it is possible that an index problem can be causing the issue. To properly troubleshoot it, please follow the steps below:

Restart your application once again by following the steps of the documentation below:
Start and Stop Jira applications
If the problem keeps occurring, try to run a re-index and an Integrity Checker in your application
You mentioned that you are now using a different account to log in. Please, check if your new account has the Browser projects permissions and is added to the correct security levels, as mentioned in the documentation below:
Managing project permissions
Configuring issue-level security

Hi Petter,

Thanks for the reply. I am using docker for JIRA. I restarted the JIRQ by issuing the docker container restart command.

The new admin account after login, there is no project available. I would need to create a new project to access the system setting.

I will perform the re-index and will share with you the outcome.

Additionally, can you confirm if the first admin account that you used before is still available in Jira? Also, are the projects displaying for this account?

Hi Petter,

All user accounts and admin accounts are still intact and available in the database. I'm using Postgres as a DB. However, i can't use the account when I restart the JIRA. What would be happened if I create a new project with the new Admin account? Would the Jira Volume directory or the DB get overwritten?

I cant perform the re-index and integrity checker as I would need to create a new project before I can enter the System setting.

Kindly advise.
