How to render PDF that use asterisks properly - i.e. as a footnote on the page it first apears

I would like the PDF rendering of a Confluence page to use properly the asterisk footnote. 

I have a page that uses asterisk footnotes but the asterisk footnote does not render in the proper location - for example it is placed on a separate page, not in the footer of the page where it is first used.
