How do I show the total original estimate for a Story or Task with Sub-tasks?

Question

I have a Jira Agile board set up (in latest version) and I want to display time totals on the planning board so I can see roughly how big each task is without having to click inside a task / story to see each sub-task individually.

Another issue is only estimates of top-level tasks are being counted towards a sprint.
I want the top level tasks to show the total of their contents.

I have searched for the solution, the buttons people link to have moved and / or have provided links to dead websites.

I really wonder, if this a request for years, why didn't Atlassian respond for it? no matter what logical reasons you provide, different teams come with different ways to plan and manage work items and sprints.

This is really frustrating.

You are giving a reference to 3rd party apps which are

- Not always free

- Not always support Jira Cloud version (AIM and Plangle do support server only).

Please go and add this feature to the product, please.

Indeed, Jira does not consider the estimation added to sub-tasks in Sprints or board reports. The answer provided by Shaun in the question below clearly explains why Jira works this way:

We clearly understand that for some use cases the estimation of sub-tasks would be a better option, so we have the following feature request to get it implemented:

Scrum/Sprint Rapid Board - Ability to "Plan" and "Report" on sub-tasks

Additional to that, we have the feature request below to automatically sum the sun-task estimation to its parent task/Story, so the estimation would be considered in the boards:

Provide the ability to automatically sum estimates from sub-tasks in user stories

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestions to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

As a workaround, there are some third-party apps that you can use to sum your sub-task estimate to its parent, as:

- Sum it up!

- AIM Agile Planning for Jira

- Plangle Editor for Jira Software
