Query to get sprint's commitment stories

Mara Castro

I want to color US cards on the board according to whether they are commitment to that sprint. I can color cards using queries, so I'm interested in finding the JQL query that I can use to apply a certain color to appear on the sprint board and have the an immediate visualisation of the stories that are commitment.

but isn't everything that shows on the active sprint board committed? in which case they would all be the same color.

Can you explain your goal further so I might assist?

Hi Mara,

Thank you for your question.

I can confirm that is not possible for us to implement the addedAfterSprintStart() function inside of ScriptRunner for Jira Cloud currently due to the fact that Atlassian does not provide any Rest API's that can be used to check when issues have been added to a sprint after it has been started.

Unfortunately, we can only use the Rest API's which Atlassian provide to create functionality inside of the APP so this means that the only option will be o use one of the solutions suggested by Jack.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Kristian

After the sprint started, we often add other user stories, in which case they are not commitment to that sprint. So the goal would be to distinguished between what was on the board when the sprint started and what was added afterwards.

Like when we go to the sprint report there is a * that indicates that those US were added to the sprint after start time. It would be the same query that Jira's uses here.

ah...so you want to distinguish 'scope churn'.

So OOTB the solution isn't pretty, i.e. there is no JQL to show added after sprint start. However....

If you have Scriptrunner I understand they have this function - addedAfterSprintStart(board name, \[sprint name\])

With out Scriptrunner (or similar addon?) then consider these options:

Labels - you could add a label to all issues at the start of the sprint, e.g. sprint-commited and then JQL on that. Of course someone could simply add that label to the creep and break your solution.
Required and restricted field - you could add a custom field drop down (Sprint commit: Start of sprint, After sprint start). You could require this be defined when transitioning the issue to the status that defines your sprint left-most column. Further you could restrict who could transition issues into this status.

Fantastic answer and I do have Scriptrunner but no addedAfterSprintStart function (I'm on Jira Cloud and this function is only available on Jira Server)

I really wanted to avoid a manual solution like using labels, so that it would be automatic or as simple as change the sprint name for each new sprint.

Any idea how that function was scripted?

Hi Kristian,

Thank you for your reply. I've seen there is already a request open to add this function to Jira Cloud so I've already voted on it.

Really appreciate Jack and your's prompt answers and I shall evaluate the effort of doing it like suggested.

Best regards,

Mara

Hi @Mara Castro , what is the name of the request so I can vote also for it. Thanks!

Mara Castro

Hi @Armando STK ,

this is the request I voted to have it in JIRA Cloud, by default: JSWCLOUD-16523
