On project, multiple workflow schemes?

Question

My team is working on a project in scrum. We would like to experiment Kanban. So we created a new kanban board in the same project but the workflow will be different than the one we use for scrum. Is it possible to have multiple workflow schemes in one project?

As this is an experiment, we would like to keep our project and not create a new one because i guess that would mean we would have to move all the issues from the actual project to the new one, right? We would also like to be able to get back to scrum if the result of the experiment is not positive.

What would you recommend we do in this situation?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Your project can have multiple workflows, but not multiple workflow schemes. Take a look at Project screens, schemes and fields to see how it all works together. If the workflow for the issues in the Kanban board should be different from the Scrum, I would use a different issue type and associate it with the workflow you need. You can then move existing issues over to the new issue type, and roll back if needed later.

Just to add a note to Makael's excellent answer - an issue type can only associated with a single workflow in a workflow scheme. So you would have to create new issue types to place in the same workflow scheme is you add new workflows.
