Does anyone know how to set up a pipeline to include Apex PMD for a Salesforce CI/CD solution?

I've successfully created a bitbucket pipeline with links to Jira and sfdx for running a pretty good Salesforce CI/CD build. I'm looking now to introduce static code analysis - I've set up SonarCloud, but it's not free - so was hoping to use Apex PMD. Has anyone seen this done? Is it even possible?
