Custom number field not appearing in searches in Confluence Gadgets

I have a custom number field that has no default value.  It's Search Template has a value of 'Number Searcher' but yet I cannot select it when using the Issues Statistics gadget in Confluence.

 

Does anyone know why this may be?  I have not changed the Search Template value since the custom field was created

An issue statistic gadget can only use list type fields - ones with fixed lists of options.
