Jira Cloud for Mac beta requires Catalina

Question

Why in the world does Jira Cloud for Mac require Catalina? Is Atlassian planning on only supporting Catalina for Jira Cloud? That's an instant way to get no corporation to ever use it. Catalina isn't going to support 32bit, along with restricting many other things, many of which are not amenable to actual daily use. Why was this not announced when signing up to try out the beta?

Hello Chris,

I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience. We do realize that for many users, they are not yet able to use Jira Mac app.

By taking advantage of the newest versions of macOS, it allows us to use newer technologies in order to create the best version of Jira Mac that we can offer. Producing Jira Mac using the Catalyst technology allows us to build and deliver this product much faster than we'd be able to if we were creating from the ground up. As a result, we gather usage and feedback from latest macOS early adopter customers. As more and more users upgrade to Catalina and begin to use the Jira Mac app, we can continuously improve the product for future iterations.

This is an IMMENSE F%#$#$%P up for users.... absolutely crazy that Catalina is the minimum entry into desktop software.

Thank you for contacting us regarding this. Jira Cloud for Mac requires Catalina because it's based on Apple's new framework called Catalyst which is available on Catalina only.

Catalyst allows apps to be ported to both iPad and MacOS. In the keynote, Jira Cloud is an example of an app that used Catalyst to be ported from iPad to MacOS. For more information, see iPad Apps for Mac.
