Different status for epics?

Hi! I have this situation where we would like to create a software board to manage our AI initiatives. These AI initiatives can be Machine Learning models, Chatbots, and others.

 

I plan to create a scrum board, and a Epic for each initiative. Depending on the initiative, it can have different status, so if this is a ML model it will have 6 status, if this is a chatbot it will have N status, etc. The board will have the to-do, doing, and done status for each story created during the sprint.

Is this even possible to have these dynamics status for the epics? I'd love to create an epic type for the different AI objects we want to create, and each one of these will have its own set of status, but looks like it is not possible.

 

Any addon or solution that could help me on this? I know I could create different boards for each AI type of object, but I'd like to have all of them centralized in one.

Hello Federico,

I understand that you would like to set different Epic-type issues, set these Epic Issue types with a customized set of statuses for each one. Is it correct?

As you mentioned, it is not possible to do in JIRA, although we have a feature request opened about this:

- Add the ability to create multiple Epic issue type in JIRA Software

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

Also, feel free to check some workarounds provided by other customers in the mentioned feature request. Some of them are:

1 - Since workflows are configured in a project base, a workaround would be to set a different workflow with different statuses for your epics per project-basis, creating a common board to visualize all of them. These would be the steps:

- Navigate to JIRA Settings > Issues > Workflows

- Create a new workflow for each set of statuses you would like to apply to your Epics. Since all workflows require a set of post functions and conditions that must be implemented, I recommend you to copy an existing workflow to customize.

- For each project, set the new workflows you created

2 - Create a complex workflow that will have all the status you want to configure for all Epics, however, use conditions and post functions to transition/allow only the status you want based on where/how the Epic is configured.
