When linking issues what is the difference between these two settings:
"is child of" versus "duplicates(child of)"

This is tough to say. I’ll suggest looking at your issue link page as this would give you the best idea of the relationship if it was configured properly.

in words only. that is, there is zero functionality tied to the 'type' of link. These are only there as a means of labeling the link. Note that I do not have these same link types or haven't noticed them.
