Linking first and second approvals in a Service Desk workflow to two separate (approver) fields

Question

I have a request type which has a two-step approval process.

In the associated workflow, when a request (issue) is created, it goes to the first approval required state. I plan to use the "out of the box" approvers field for this approval. This field will be hidden as the field will be populated by an automation rule.

Once the first approval is made, the issue will move to the second approval required state. I want to use a separate field to contain the ID of the person who will make the second approval.

I know how to define a user picker field but I have no idea as to how to associate it with the second approval.

I have attached a screenshot of the relevant workflow.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi Daminda,

We also have workflows with multiple approval steps and use multiple fields for each of those approval stages.   So once you have your new custom second approval field created (type user picker).  Go to your workflow (diagram mode only) and click on the status/step.  Check off "Add approval" and then hit the configure beside it

THen in the Get APprovers from - enter your new custom field

Hint:  You can only do this on an active workflow not an inactive workflow.

Hi Dawinda,

I am not on the Jira Service Desk Team but I will try to help.

Have you added the Custom field already?  I suspect that when you configure the approval step you should be able to select the Custom Field.
