Our branches are gone with no logs of deletion. What happened?

My team is working with feature branches and suddenly this afternoon 10+ branches were deleted from the origin. Only two branches remained. There are no logs of these branches being deleted and we are baffled as to why this happened. Thankfully our local branches have persisted and new commits push these branches back to the origin.

Has anyone else noticed this recently? Can anyone bring some insight into why this might be?

Hello Amesh,

Your branches within Bitbucket may have been cleaned up depending on which options were selected when the branch was closed or the pull request was merged back. If none of the new commits in the branches made it back to master or other, then chances are the branches were closed or deleted. If the changes did make it to master or other then most likely the pull requests had been merged back.

If the branches were deleted, there is a procedure which can be used to restore the deleted branches. You may find this procedure at How to restore a deleted branch.

As far as the audit logs in Bitbucket cloud, the only logging which is recorded to the audit log is as follows:

• Basic account information (name, location, website) updates
• Changes to email addresses
• Links with third party accounts (Google, Twitter, Facebook)
• Addition of OAuth services integrations
• Groups & general access list changes
• Creation and deletion of repositories
