Everything I've seen about the official Atlassian MCP indicates that you would use an SSO authentication flow. We do use this with IDE-based AI tools like roo-code and cursor. However, I want to use the MCP with headless tools like Claude Code running from the CLI in CI/CD. I could see two options potentially:
However, I don't see anything in the documentation that indicates either of these will work with the official Atlassian MCP. Is there any way to call this MCP from CI/CD workflows?
Hi guys!
I'd just like to point out the new Atlassian Rovo MCP Server forum group. 👈
There's much more engagement from the official Atlassian team there, so if you get stuck with something, I'd probably recommend raising a discussion there (as it's a specific group type, there's no way to 'ask a question').
Again, I'm no expert on the topic, but I've asked the official team how they want to handle these kinds of questions and I'm still waiting for a reply.
Cheers,
Tobi
Hi gary.bisaga@powerschool.com ,
I believe official MCP for Confluence, Jira and Rovo currently supports OAuth 2.0 authentication only and that API tokens and OpenID Connect (OIDC) are not supported for authenticating with the Atlassian MCP.
However, I'm no expert here, so I'll move this question to the appropriate app/feature group for other experts to chime in.
Cheers,
Tobi

Your OAuth authentication flow is not good.
Whenever we start our computers and IDEs, it prompts us for a Jira + MCP OAuth login daily. On top of that, when I switch workspaces in my IDE (we use Cursor in our company), it asks me to log in with OAuth again. I mean, why? I was already logged in. I switch workspaces multiple times a day, and when I need to use two workspaces at once, I have to do an OAuth login twice!!!
Your OAuth login, too, has two different pages. The first one loads, but it takes its own time. When it does, clicking accept takes me to the next screen, where I have to click accept again. Why is it so dumb?
This causes a lot of friction to logging in every time especially for developers working on multiple projects at once. Its so annoying that I've stopped using jira mcp completely and rely on Rovo chat in jira now for anything.
PLEASE ADD API KEY SUPPORT.
