Application link without direct server-server connection?

Hi hope you can help me.

For a one way application link (I am only admin of one server), is it possible to allow the integration without having a direct server connection?

So who calls the linked URLs, my server or the browser of the user throught the macro? Because the user has access to the other Jira, but my Confluence-Server can not call the other Jira instance directly (security reasons).

How does the application link works?
