What is the Purpose of  the Reporter field in Jira? Is it just the person who creates the issue? Does it imply they will get email notifications for any updates to that issue?

Many a times we create stories on others behalf. I see reporter field as source of the requirement, which may or may not be the creator.

That sounds very reasonable. Thank you Keshav!

Hi ! I really agree with answer considering you can identify the creator of a ticket in its history so you an use "reporter" as source of requirement (which is much more valuable in my opinion)

Yes, it's the author (creator) of issue.

Default notification scheme sends message for

  • All Watchers
  • Current Assignee
  • Reporter

Technically, there is also a Creator field, so that's a loaded term. It may be safer to say the Reporter is the "originator" of the work item (Epic, Task, Story, etc.).
