What is the Purpose of the Reporter field in Jira? Is it just the person who creates the issue? Does it imply they will get email notifications for any updates to that issue?

Hi ! I really agree with answer considering you can identify the creator of a ticket in its history so you an use "reporter" as source of requirement (which is much more valuable in my opinion)

Technically, there is also a Creator field, so that's a loaded term. It may be safer to say the Reporter is the "originator" of the work item (Epic, Task, Story, etc.).
