What happened when groups were deleted?

Question

We synchronize our AD-Groups from the AD to our local Jira-Directory. When the AD-Group was delete with the next synchronization it will be deleted in the jira-directory. But what happend with the group, if i use it in projects for permissions? How can find all the groups, which were used in project but are no longer in th jira-directory?

But in some cases, I can't remove the group manually; in the first step the group was removed, but when I reload the page, the group is still there!?

You will have to go thru each project and look for where you used the group and update it appropriately.

You could use the api to find which projects have references to the group.  However it depends on where you are using the group as there are many places where you could have used the group, like in an addon that the api may not find.  This would at least narrow down on which projects to search, but it wouldn't be sure to "catch them all".
