Modify pending approval indicator

Hi

How would you be able to handle an approval in different steps?

The default approval would be going from waiting for approval to approved

But a different flow would be from waiting for approval to additional information is needed and from there declined or approved.

This can be done using a workflow but then if a request enters the second flow the request will still be flagged as waiting for my approval in the Customer portal.

How would I be able to remove/modify the 'flag' Pending_by_me?
