This is for data center only -
I have a custom field - "type of request" and it is used by multiple projects.
I tried to add a new context and rename the field to "Request type" but it still has the old field name
@Maureen McKeon I think you have 2 choices:
- Rename the field name and will affect all the usages
- Create a new custom field with sme name and values maybe with context only for your new project
Nicolas
a field name can not be changed via a field context. This is simply for having different options per project in a single field.
If you need it to have another name you will have to create another field or go with the new name in every project, as @Nicolas Grossi mentioned.

Kai's answer is the correct one. If you make a second field with same name could cause problems sown the road..when you add field to screens not knowing which field id which. You would be constantly looking for numeric id of the one configured for the single project. Also if instance administrator runs the custom field optimiser jira will merge the field configuration under one numeric id and break any rules or ost functions etc.

yes.. but it didn't change the name
I was able to modify other field names that were only used by 1 project
