📣 We're bringing swimlanes to business Boards

We’re excited to announce that swimlanes will soon be rolled out to the Board view in Business spaces. On top of this we’ve made some updates to how you group so that it’s easier for all teams to organise and track work in Jira boards.

Now your workflow stays visible even when you group by different fields.

Lastly, you’ll notice a refreshed design - this is to ensure we can deliver a simpler and coherent grouping experience across Jira.

⚙️ How it works

Note: this will apply to any team or company-managed business space

1. Swimlane grouping

• Columns are fixed to status

• Applying groups organises work into swimlanes

• Grouping can be cleared to revert the board back to a simple status-only view
  
  

2. More group by options

On top of the fields that already exist (Assignee, Priority, and Category) you will soon be able to group by:

• Epic: any epic or Level 1 work type

• Subtask: any work item with subtasks will display in their own swimlane
  
  

Drag and drop everywhere

• ↔️ Between columns to transition status

• ↕️ Between swimlanes to change groups

• 🔀 Within a lane to re-order work

• Will the swimlanes be created from the Board settings -> Layout option, or in a different way?
• Will the swimlanes be based on software spaces with more options such as swimlanes by Stories, Epics and custom ones with JQL?

The massive confusion that exists among my users is why the business spaces boards act so differently from the software boards.  I have never understood that.  I'm glad that you are starting to (I hope) move towards adopting the features of software boards, so my users are not confused!

Having a consistent grouping experience across Software and Business spaces is one of the main goals for this change.

That being said, for now our main focus is to bring grouping in business space boards up to parity with their team-managed software counterparts.

There are some unique differences with boards in company-managed software spaces these being:

- More configurability of swimlane layouts

- Group by JQL/Queries

Both of these are will not be included but we are looking to address these in the future.
