I'm Tejasvita, Product Manager on the Jira team! I’m excited to announce that we’re creating a new Jira experience for individual capacity planning, and I’d like to invite you to join our Early Access Program, which will begin in the next few weeks

Why we’re building this

At Atlassian, we believe great delivery starts with great planning. For too long, individual capacity planning has been stuck in spreadsheets or scattered across disconnected tools, making it tough to see, at a glance, how your team’s talents are being put to work.

…but that’s all about to change!

Introducing our brand-new capacity planning experience: now, people managers and team leads can effortlessly plan and visualise the capacity of every individual on their team, across major work streams – whether it’s a product launch, marketing campaign, conference, or anything in between. This means more clarity, better alignment, and the power to deliver your best work, together.

We’re on the lookout for 20 customers (sites) who are excited to be the first to try out this experience and help shape its future with your feedback.

What’s in the Early Access Program?

1. Available in Jira Spaces, the Capacity view will allow you to assign individuals to Jira epics and higher-level work items, specifying their percentage allocation for each

Please note: The experience supports capacity planning for large work streams, and hence Jira epics and higher-level items. 


2. Capture time-off and non-project work (training, RTB/KTLO, etc.) as part of an individual’s capacity.

What’s coming next?

We believe capacity planning at the individual level empowers teams to work smarter and achieve more. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s ahead:

1. Time-based allocations: Soon, you can allocate individual time in hours, days, or weeks, in addition to percent allocations.

2. Work-first resourcing view: Start with the work and its estimated effort, then allocate individuals accordingly to forecast delivery timelines and assess what’s achievable within available capacity.

3. Enhanced usability, powered by AI: We are focusing on usability improvements and implementing AI-assisted capacity planning.
