Can anyone please suggest if there is a field in JIRA where we can add an external reference ticket number to link with our internal tickets?
I read about some old articles about adding a link, but instead I am looking for a fields where we can just enter the External ref number.

The on prem edition of Jira used to have a custom field external issue id for this. I don't see that around in my own cloud site, but you can add a new custom field to Jira to cover for your need.

Thanks Walter. I will check the article you have shared. I dont have the admin rights but will get in touch with the responsible person to explore this option. We have a standard license, so I hope that doesn't restrict us from having a custom column,

@Sugandha Sharma It sounds like you'll need to create a single-line text custom field, which you will need to add to the screen used by your internal ticket's issue type.
Even if the reference is only numbers I might still suggest using the text field, as the formatting of number fields can often change the reference - e.g. if the reference starts with 0, the number field wouldn't show it

Thanks Callum. Yes, our intention would to have a text field only considering the value can be alphanumeric.
I guess I need to now figure out how to get the custom field.
