AI-Powered capabilities in Hardware Asset Management in Jira Service Management

TLDR : We’re bringing native Rovo AI capabilities and dedicated AI skills to Hardware Asset Management (HAM) in Jira Service Management. Asset managers can now see proactive risks like expiring warranties and dormant devices, query inventory in plain English, and configure HAM rules in just a few clicks.

Hello Community! 👋

Following our recent announcement on the Hardware Asset Management we’re thrilled to dive deeper into one of the most powerful aspects of modern asset management: AI capabilities in Hardware Asset Management

Managing thousands of laptops, servers, monitors, and network devices across their entire lifecycle is complex. Spotting expiring warranties before renewals lapse, catching dormant hardwares, and fine-tuning stock replenishment often requires hours of tedious spreadsheet work.

Hardware Insights

Insights provides users with 6 pre-configured, OOTB summaries tailored to the context of a card. Each insight delivers a concise, AI-generated summary of a specific attribute or dimension, giving users a quick, meaningful overview without having to dig through raw data.

What are these insights?

  • Expiring Warranties: Identify devices approaching end-of-warranty to plan renewals or refreshes before coverage lapses.

  • Low Stock Alerts: Get notified when stockrooms fall below designated thresholds so procurement can reorder ahead of time.

  • Dormant Assets: Detect devices that haven't checked in or show no recent activity in past few days.

  • Over assigned Assets : Identifies users with too many assets.

  • Incident-Prone Assets: Identifies hardware assets in your environment that are experiencing recurring reliability issues.

  • Incomplete Models: Flag asset records missing model details.

How to Use Hardware Insights

Rovo AI Skills for HAM

You can invoke these specialised skills directly inside Rovo Chat to automate setup, run intelligent queries, and manage configurations without navigating through dozens of configuration menus.

What are these skills?

  1. /search-hardware - This skill enables context-aware inventory search across selected hardware types — querying asset data with a deep understanding of HAM schemas and object types for precise lookups across your hardware inventory.
  2. /hardware-setup - This skill kickstarts the onboarding flow for Hardware Asset Management. It enables the common data model, gathers desired hardware types, generates the setup plan and post confirmation provisions the hardware asset management for your site. This is applicable only for the first time provisioning if not done already, and can be run by Jira Service Management admins.
  3. /hardware-configuration - This skill enables management of Hardware Asset Management (HAM) configurations — including setting up depreciation rules, defining stock rules, and controlling user access by assigning HAM Admin or HAM User roles.
  4. /hardware-insights - This skill surfaces AI-generated summaries for any of the 6 hardware insights, such as assets with warranty expiring soon, stale assets, low stock, missing model data etc.

Access & Permissions

Hardware Insights and Skills respect your existing permissions and role-based access control:

  • Insights: Requires Hardware User or Hardware Administrator permissions in JSM, plus View permissions on the underlying hardware Assets schema.

  • Insights only reflect the hardware data and objects you are authorised to see.

Interesting stuff @Himanshi Gaba ! Thanks for sharing.

One question - will these skills/AI-powered capabilities be available through MCP as well (e.g. Claude or ChatGPT connectors)?

Is part of this new feature or addition the connectivity piece to reach out to manufactures' websites or do API calls to find out warranty end dates and populate them into the CMDB? This would truly make Jira Assets even more powerful!
