I'm reaching out to request assistance with accessing my Bitbucket account. I used to log in with a Microsoft account under an old name, but I've since updated my name and no longer have access to the old Microsoft account email address.
Unfortunately, when attempting to log in, I’m being asked for a verification code that is sent to the old Microsoft account. As I don’t have access to that account anymore, I’m unable to retrieve the required code to verify my identity.
The account I’m trying to access includes repositories that are crucial for my work.
I would greatly appreciate your guidance on recovering access to my account. Please let me know if there are any additional steps I can take or further information you require to assist with this process.
Hello @Nandni Hirani ,
and welcome to the Community!
Atlassian uses the email address associated with your account to verify ownership, which is why we are unable to alter email addresses directly due to our security and ownership verification protocols. However, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue.
First, the most straightforward solution would be to regain access to your old Microsoft email account. This would allow you to log in to Bitbucket and update your account information accordingly. If that's not possible, you might want to contact another admin in your Bitbucket workspace, if there is one, and ask them to invite your new email address as an admin. This would provide your new account with the necessary permissions to manage the workspace.
Alternatively, if you still have read/write access to your repositories using an SSH key/app password, you can create a new workspace where you would be the admin and move your repositories to it. To do this, you would need to clone your repositories to your local machine, set up a new workspace where your new account is the admin, and push your repositories to this new workspace.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you, @Nandni Hirani !
