Help with two-step verification

I am trying to log into my bitbucket account (not the same account I'm logged in here with).  I enter my email address, password, and 6-digit code from my authenticator app.  That used to be all that was needed.

Today I am being sent to another page that says:  "Open the two-step verification app on your mobile device to get your verification code or enter a recovery code."

I don't know what this is.  Entering another 6-digit code off my authentication app doesn't work. 

I then tried the "forgot code" link and it sent email that I would receive a login code in 24 hours.  I need to access bitbucket today, though.

Can anyone shed any clarity on what is needed?
