Hi Atlassian Community! 👋
Your data stored in Assets captures the unique domain of your business: hardware, people, services, systems, and more. But Assets has always been about more than storing that data - it's about making sure the right people have the right information at the right time, so your organisation can move faster, stay compliant, and make better decisions.
We've taken a big step towards making that experience easier than ever before by bringing Assets and Rovo closer together. Rovo now knows the unique context of your business, making finding your Asset data easier than ever before so your team always has the right context, right when they need it.
You can find Assets in Rovo’s unified Search alongside your Jira issues, Confluence pages, and other work. You’ll start seeing the new result recommendations as you type in the search field. No more jumping between projects or remembering which schema holds what, your whole team can find asset objects from the same search bar they already use every day.
Ask Rovo a question in plain language and get an immediate, structured answer from your Assets data, no AQL required. Rovo understands your schemas, object types, attributes, and relationships, and translates natural-language questions into an AQL query behind the scenes.
Pro Tip: You can explicitly invoke the /search-assets data skill using the slash command. Otherwise, Rovo determines from the context of your prompt whether it relates to Assets and when to invoke this skill.
Visit our earlier post to learn more about Rovo Skills.
Create custom agents in Rovo Studio that understand your Assets data. Give an agent clear instructions and enable the Search Assets data skill, so your team gets a self-serve assistant that can answer asset questions on demand.
Pro Tip: You can also connect these agents to automation rules using the Rovo action.
There are four ways for you to leverage this skill:
Demo 1: Find your Assets data alongside your other work in Rovo Search
Demo 2: Ask questions about Assets in everyday language and get immediate, relevant responses
Demo 3: Create Assets-aware agent that understands the context of your business
Demo 4: Create an agentic Automation rule which passes Assets context into your pre-defied workflow
Assets is now part of Rovo's unified search. Navigate to Rovo Search and start typing an Asset schema, object type, or an object and the results will start surfacing instantly, right alongside Jira issues and Confluence pages.
Pro Tip: You can use Schemas and Object Types filter to help you narrow down your search.
Open Rovo Chat and invoke the Search Assets skill by typing /search-assets, then ask your question in plain language. This is the fastest way to find data stored in Assets without needing to open Assets at all.
Pro Tip: Rovo infers from context if your question relates to Assets and can invoke this skill implicitly without requiring the /search-assets command. Using the slash (“/”) command can improve response accuracy but is not mandatory.
Try asking things like:
"Show me all laptops in the Sydney office that need repair."
"Which of those are still under warranty?"
"Which critical servers don't have an owner assigned?"
What used to take minutes of tab-switching, schema navigation, and manual cross-referencing now takes seconds.
Instead of being the go-to person for every Asset question, build an agent in Rovo Studio that can help your team answer questions on demand. Give the Agent clear instructions and enable the Search Assets data skill. You can also narrow down the scope of this Agent by specifying which Assets schemas it can access. Now anyone on your team has a self-serve assistant that can answer asset questions on demand.
Build an Assets-aware agent and connect it to an automation rule. Set a scheduled trigger (e.g. “every Monday at 9am”) and give the agent a clear task (e.g. "find all laptops with warranty expiring in the next 4 weeks"). Complete the rule configuration add an action such as to create a Jira work item and pass Assets context using {{agentResponse}} smart value.
We're not stopping here. Coming soon, you will be able to take action directly in Assets with Rovo using our new skill: Manage Assets data. This skill will unlock write operations, enabling Rovo to create and update Assets data using natural language.
If you’re interested and want to be one of the first to try it, simply complete the form below and our team will be in touch with more details on how to get started.

Q: What is Search Assets data skill designed to do?
A: The purpose of this skill is to help you find data stored in Assets. You can ask it questions in every day language and it will help you find related schemas, object types, objects and attributes.
Q: How does Search Assets data skill works?
A: The skill analyses your prompt and converts it into an AQL query behind the scenes - as simple as that.
Q: How can I invoke this skill in Rovo Chat?
A: You can explicitly invoke this skill by typing /search-assets and selecting it from the menu when it appears. Rovo can also infer from context that your question relates to Assets and invoke this skill without you explicitly including it in the prompt.
Q: Do I need to specify the schema name in my Rovo Chat prompt?
A: It's not mandatory - this skill is optimised to find the right schema from context. However, including the schema name in your prompt helps avoid hallucinations and gives more accurate results.
Q: Can I ask it to format results as a table in Rovo Chat?
A: Yes. You can specify column names in your prompt and the skill will return structured table output. Example: "List all laptops where Status is 'In Use'. Show Asset key, Model, Owner, and Location in a table."
Q: Can it find objects connected to a work items using Search Assets data skill?
A: Yes. It can find assets connected to work items in Jira and Jira Serise Management.
Q: Can I create or update Assets in Rovo?
A: Not yet. Today, Assets data is read-only in Rovo. Rovo can only search and retrieve data. Creating and updating Assets in Rovo will arrive soon as a separate skill. Please register for our EAP to be among the first to try this new skill.
Q: How accurate are the results?
A: The quality, accuracy, and reliability of AI-generated responses may vary, depending on the structure of your data and the specificity of your prompt. We recommend verifying results before acting on them. Being specific in your prompts will help improve result quality. More on AI Trust.
Q: Can the Search Assets data skill handle large result sets (e.g. hundreds of objects)?
A: Yes. You can use this skill to fetch large datasets which you could export to Confluence. Direct CSV file downloads are not supported.
Q: Does the Search Assets data skill respect Assets permissions?
A: Yes. Results are scoped to the querying user permissions. If the user can't see the data in the Assets UI, they won't be able to find it using this skill.
