upgrade from 3.13

Ann Mattheeuws February 5, 2014

Hello,

We are currenly working with jira 3.13.

I want to move up to the most current version, but I wonder whether it would be better to

- Back-up all data to XML

- Start a new jira-environment (from scratch)

- Restore all data

Or whether it would be better to upgrade the old environment (we are far behind!)

it will be a multi-step upgrade as you can't go from 3.13 to 6.x directly. The first part from 3.13 to 4.3.x (if I remember correctly) will be XML export/restore and then second part can be doen easily using the JIRA upgrade utility. And you should read all the release notes to understand the changes.

If you have lot of customizations in your environment, you will have to upgrade them and test it in a test environment, to be sure that everything works fine after upgrade.
