I'm unable to open documents in Office

I have downloaded the plug in to open and edit a document in Confluence. I've also enabled all plug in options as a System Administrator to edit a document in Office. All the options are visible to 'Edit it Office' but everytime I hit the 'Edit in Office' buttons nothing happens. What else needs to be done?

We have had and continue to have occasional problems with this as well based on browser and different user PCs. In our case, IE usually works. FireFox has more difficulties even with a Microsoft patch - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2123563

I've more or less stopped using this function. Word documents are added to Confluence for historic reasons, not for editing. There are a lot of open issues in this regards, also in regards to possible issues with hardware, SSL, etc.
