Can I restore a full XML backup from a running 5.8.10 system to 6.1.3?

Mike May 24, 2017

I'm trying to avoid an in place upgrade to our production Confluence system by essentially migrating the database to another server. Is this possible?

Ann is right - upgrade it properly.

Although, there is another option - install an empty Confluence, export the spaces you want to transfer over one at a time and then import them one at a time - the xml space exports are mostly version-agnostic.

Please follow Upgrading Confluence to upgrade. The document mentions:

"XML backups should not be used to upgrade Confluence."

This is because of db schema changes between versions.

I was afraid of that.

Thanks,

Not to belabor this but on the Restore Menu panel it says:

Upload and restore a site/space backup.

This site accepts full site imports from Confluence 4.0 and later, and space imports from Confluence 5.3 and later.

What does this mean?

Also, can I go directly from 5.8 to 6.1 or to I have to install intermediate releases?

Thanks,

Mike
