Jira Premium Integration with Gitlab basic

Hey everyone, I'm evaluating switching to JIRA premium for tracking issues across our various projects/business processes. Our company has been using free Gitlab for a couple years and there is a lot of info on there. I'm a Program Manager type, but trying to understand the impact it would have on our developers who would be using Gitlab free version for code and Jira for the issue tracking. Is there anyone doing this that I may be able to speak to? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jarrod,

Welcome to the community. It's very common to use a separate version control tool (DVCS) such as Gitlab, Github or Bitbucket to manage code, while tracking work in Jira.

Developers can continue to commit code in Gitlab, while issues for project and program managers are tracked in Jira. You and your team get all the benefits of Jira - agile boards, advanced roadmaps, integration with a service desk tool, and the Atlassian marketplace to add any other functionality you may need.

It's best to look into an integration such as Gitlab for Jira Cloud or Gitlab Jira integration (Gitlab documentation). There will be a DVCS connector of some kind :) This will help manage the transition and showcase the value of using Jira with Gitlab.

Cheers, Jimmy
