"An unknown error occured while adding you as watcher"

We are running JIRA 4.4 and getting the error above while clicking on "Watch" on an issue within the

activity stream. I could not found anything in the logs. How to proceed?

There is an issue with JIRA 4.4, when Watching/Voting is disable globally in JIRA. User can still see it in activity stream and clicking on it give this error. The issue is tracked at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-25399

But if you have Watching and Voting enable, then its a different issue. To confirm you have watching/Voting enable/disable, you can go to Adminstration->General configuration (if admin permission) or check view issue page for a issue not reported by you.

Did you resolve this? Evaluating going from 4.0.x to 4.4.3 ourseves and have this problem. Watch/Vote throws this exact error from the activity stream.
