how can we use custom field like customer name in Pie chart to be used in Dashboard

I want to use one custom field having customer name in one of the Pie chart which eventually need to be used in Dashboard.

In a Pie Chart you can choose select fields (single, multi or insight object) in 'statistic type".

What type of custom field is your "customer name"?

It must be of type string and it is not getting listed in 'statistic type', is there any way to get it listed there.
