can i execute http GET request in POST function and get the response and show in textfield?

 I have a multiline text field and I have a single select list field. if I select fruits in the single select list behind the scene it should make an HTTP GET request and get the response from a URL and show the JSON response in multiline text field??? please help me out is it possible with post function??
