Start and/or End Date driven by time estimate?

David Doria October 26, 2017

Is there a way to involve the time estimate in the creation of the Gantt chart? That is, if a user estimates 16 hours for a story, how can that automatically generate a bar on the Gantt chart that is 2 days long?

Hello David,

In some cases this would depend on the plugin which you use (either BigPicture's Gantt module or BigGantt), though generally this calculation is made by the plugin based on the pre-determined settings in Jira's Administrative panel.

Once we set the Time Tracking for a business week to be 5 days and the business day to be 8 hours, this calculation will be made automatically and your 16h story will be split into 2 business days.

@Piotrek Romanczyk [SoftwarePlant] So then it will make the end of the bar the Due Date and the start of the bar the (Due Date - Time Estimate)?

Also, it's a bummer that many of these settings are per JIRA instance - my company has an instance shared with hundreds of people so there are many subgroups that operate very differently and we usually can't just change fields like the ones your suggesting for everyone.
