Require a comment when a field is updated/changed

Hi,

We would like to be able to require a comment if certain fields are updated in a issue.  For example, if someone changes the Due Date we want the user to enter the reason why they are changing the Due Date.

Can this be done in JIRA? Or is there an add-on that would make this possible?

Thanks.

You'd have to do it as part of a loop back workflow step. Ie. In Progress ->Update Due Date -> In Progress. Then on the Update Due Date you can add in a verification step that requires a comment on the screen https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB/How+to+configure+Comment+field+to+be+required+in+workflow+transition

Thanks for answering Daniel. We actually have the add-on that is required installed already, so that's good. But, let me see if I understand what you are talking about with regard to the loop back workflow: would I create a custom workflow that would be fired when someone changed the Due Date field?
