One of our end users asked us to set a workflow for a particular issue type, having statusses like so (see attached). While most of it is straightforward, the part of the requirement was that the user should be able to move to "Future" and "abandoned" states at any point in the flow. As an example,, lets say if the status of the "Idea" ticket is set to be in Future status, then it should be able to go back to the "previous" status that it was on, before it was set to "Future" status - so its supposed to "remember" its previous status before being moved to "Future" or "Abandoned" status. Any pointers on achieving this would be greatly appreciated.
You need a bit of code to do this, but there are several add-ons in the marketplace that provide the functions you need already.
Set up transtions that move the issue to the previous status. Then protect them with "conditions" that "check previous status of issue" (those conditions are the things that you'll need code/add-ons for)
