Is there any way to modify the validation code behind the URL Field in order to make it allow file paths of shared folders on our intranet?

When I try to put the following path into a custom field (based on the URL Field),

\\server\folder\path

I get "not a valid URL"

I have also tried the following format:

file:///\\server\folder\path

I figured it out. I needed to use this format:

file://///server\folder\path

(which works fine in IE, although FF doesn't seem to recognize it as a real link).

I am looking for the same thing. I got your solution to work as far as to being allowed to insert the link. But regardless of which browser I try, I click the link in the ticket. Does anybody ells have a solution to this?
