Performing XML Backup on a production system?

Ben Whitehill December 11, 2012

I am migrating from JIRA 4.1 to Jira 5.2, and need to perform a XML Backup. Will I be able to perform an XML backup on a production JIRA system? The client would like their current version of JIRA (4.1) to stay up while they test the newest one out (5.2). Let me know. Thanks!

Yes, 4.1 will continue to work while the xml is exported. You may see a little performance impact.

But, remember, anything they change during and after the export will NOT go into 5.2. Fine for testing, but when you actually do the migration, you will absolutely need down-time.
